Does our culture determine what we know?
What we know is called as knowledge. Culture is believed to influence the knowledge and it also helps in determining which knowledge is appropriate to share with whom and when. All you know is the result of the language you learned and the ethical values you learnt in the culture you were born. The culture and the lifestyle we live in has changed the way we look at certain things and how we evaluate them.
Manners, languages, customs, traditions, body gestures and preferences are determined by the culture followed in different regions on earth. A small part of what we know might be determined by the culture but mostly knowing what you know is up you to experience and learn.
In other cases, it is known that culture can shape the way we view the world. Studies have shown that people from different cultures see and perceive things differently and that is probably due to how their culture shaped the way they view the world.
Some cultures look down upon people with less social status. What we know is sometimes classified by social status. The upper class never look down upon knowledge, but poor people in the past were caught up by their needs to feed themselves and to survive, so they really didn’t have the chance to educate themselves.
